Mandela : "Miriam Makeba was South Africa's first lady of song"
Former South African President Nelson Mandela has paid tribute to singing legend Miriam Makeba, who has died aged 76 after a concert in Italy. She was the "mother of our struggle" and "South Africa's first lady of song", Mr Mandela said. Makeba became a symbol of the fight against apartheid and spent three decades abroad after South Africa's government revoked her passport. GTV Launches Bet, Afro Music Channels
GTV last week launched two more channels; Black Entertainment Television (BET) and the Afro Music l on its service. According to Daniel Kagwe, General Manager GTV Uganda Limited, starting from 1st December, the two channels will start airing following the launch of Discovery Channel on the pan African network which was launched in November.
