African Dance

Sunduza dance theatre are based at the Es'Phakeni theatre, Pumula, Bulawayo. They use a cappella harmonies and dance. Whilst they offer concerts they are best known for several full stage productions set to traditional and contemporary dance based upon researched historical archive materials.

Danceafreaka is a new and fun workout that uses Traditional African dance techniques to improve: body tone, flexibility, fitness, and cardio vascular health. Uniquely it incorporates aspects of dances from different parts of the African continent emphasising their aerobic and muscle strengthening qualities.

MASA was created in 1993 by the "Agence Intergouvernementale de la Francophonie." It became an international program for the development of African performing arts in March 1993. Its main objective is to promote African artists and their works and incorporate them into international distribution channels in order to contribute to the economic and socio-cultural development of Africa.
MASA is the only Panafrican artistic project which combines business opportunities, a forum for professionals and a festival. It is held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, every other year, at the end of February each odd year. It brings to audiences more than a hundred theatrical, dance and musical troupes from all over Africa.

Oriki Theater is a non profit community based theater, that provides opportunities for our communities to have a shared experience of the real Africa, its people and their way of life through a unique combination of dance, drama, music, poetry, chants, folk stories and the drum. Founded in 1992, Oriki Theater has over thirty public engagements yearly. From outreach programs in local schools to season productions, the theater seeks to provide various ways for participants to experience Africa, it’s people and their way of life.

Danse Nyata Nyata is a Contemporary African Dance compagny : performances teaching, classes, workshop and conferences.

What is more attractive for Georges Momboye, talented choreographer, than leave his own roots to elaborate a directory and favor a choreographic research which allows the African dance to be renewed in a representative "contemporary" work of the current society ?

Located in the heart of Manhattan, the Centre is devoted to bringing to the general public the beauty and joy of all forms of ethnic dance and drum, as well as Western dance forms and martial arts. DDDC offers more than 70 classes each week, and draws over 600 students to its evening and weekend programs. People of all ages, races, religions and economic backgrounds meet at DDDC to dance and drum. Live music accompanies classes.

Sunduza in Ndebele means 'let us push'. They come from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Sunduza have been pushing their beautiful scintillating harmonies, percussive rhythms and high energy dances internationally. The productions reflect a wide range of Southern African dance normally displayed in a context to which international audiences can relate. The performances are upbeat and reflect modern and traditional issues in Southern Africa.

OSMOSES, is an hour and a half concert of Music and Dance, consisting of original songs and compositions in French, English, Spanish and Creole. They are interpreted by Carole Alexis that draws from her transcontinental lifestyle as well as talented musicians and dancers of the Diaspora with extensive backgrounds all driven by a percussive rhythmic bringing many disciplines and ethnic flavors.
