Desert Blues in the Emerald City: Tinariwen & Vieux Farka Touré Perform at Earshot Jazz Festival
Tuareg guitar legends Tinariwen and the son of the Desert Blues legend Ali Farka Toure (Vieux Farka Touré), will be appearing at this year's Earshot Jazz Festival under the moniker, Festival in the Desert Concert. This unique double bill will be featured at Town Hall on October 31, 8:00 p.m.

The three day Le Fête de Marquette opened for its second year on Friday, July 13th. Located in Madison's fledgling Central Park, the festival is a free event raising money through concessions for development of the three acre park. The lineup of world musical talent is fabulous for a small festival with a brief history.
Vieux Farka Touré led the Friday evening lineup. Vieux's sound doesn't mimic the stark Malian blues his father, Ali Farka Touré made famous. His band sounds like what Jorma Kaukonen could done if he had transplanted Hot Tuna songs into the classic Jefferson Airplane ...

I saw Vieux Farka Touré last night in Chicago at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. He opened for Toumani Diabate and was a complete surprise. I expected the melancholic and sparse bluesy African music his father, Ali Farka Toure , made famous. His eponymous debut CD owes much to his father and centers on that sound.Vieux has his father's deep connection to music but, at least in concert, he's going his own way. Vieux's music is high energy and danceable.
