Biography of The Jolly Boys

The Jolly Boys are a musical ensemble from Jamaica. This quartet specialized in mento music. The group performed with bongos, banjo, rhumba box, and kalimba, or finger-piano. Based in the Port Antonio, the Jolly Boys were very popular during the 1940s and 1950s. They performed at the Trident Hotel and parties for the rich and famous at Errol Flynn's residence. During the late 1980s, there was a renewed interest in The Jolly Boys when Jules Shear heard them playing during his stay at The Trident Hotel. he returned to Jamaica and produced Pop 'n' Mento and a number of their other albums.
