City Slickers

Boulders - a popular beach resort on South Africa's Cape. Scene of a determined takeover by a colony of small penguins. Their invasion has brought laughter, fun - and conflict. CITY SLICKERS is the story of African penguins and people competing for suburban habitat. Seabird and human share beaches, streets - sometimes even bedrooms! Two penguins, our central characters, meet and form a lifetime bond early in this story. Life's challenges can be tough - the hot African sun, predatory seals and Great White sharks, egg thieving gulls and mongooses, crowded living quarters, and devastating winter storms. But their toughest challenge is human. Nesting space is short on the beach, so enterprising penguins move into town - trespassing in hotels, private pools, hothouses, the golf course. They scale walls, stroll through bars, stop traffic. At night their donkey-like braying under the residents' windows brings many a sleepless night. Simultaneously scourge of suburbia, and much-loved entertainer. June, mid-winter - the hardest penguin challenge yet: a massive oil spill threatens to annihilate the species. Forgetting former differences, humans mount history's biggest seabird rescue. Emotionally-charged images show how 45,000 African penguins were snatched from death's door. Penguin lovers and haters alike applaud the CITY SLICKERS' release to the wild and freedom.

Market Report - Asia Stocks Slip

Oil prices push Asia markets lower; euro hits two-month low against dollar. ZHANG: Asia stocks slipped on Thursday due to oil's push to another record high. Crude prices struck another record above $123 a barrel, lifting shares of oil producers but weighing on oil refiners and airlines. In China, investors are especially concerned that rising oil prices are adding to the country's already serious inflationary pressures. Japan's benchmark Nikkei fell 1.1 percent, slipping from its highest level in almost 4 months. Banking shares such as Mitsubishi UFJ were among the worst hit. The euro slumped to a two-month low against the dollar. Fresh economic data sparked concerns that the European Central Bank may cut interest rates. Gold also dropped in response to a firmer dollar. In corporate news, China's biggest telephone firm China Mobile said it was interested in entering the South African mobile market. The telecom giant has a mixed track record in making acquisitions. It came close to buying an emerging market operator based outside China 2 years ago.

A Raisin in the Sun - (selected) Scene - pt. 5

Lorraine Hansberry was born in Chicago as the daughter of a prominent real-estate broker, Carl Hansberry, and the niece of William Leo Hansberry (1894-1965), a Howard University professor of African history in D.C. William Leo Hansberry taught at Howard University ultil 1959 after rejecting employment offers from Atlanta University and the Honorable Marcus Garvey. A college at the University of Nigeria was named in his honor. Hansberry's parents were intellectuals and activists. Her father was an active member of the Republican Party. He won an antisegregation case before the Illinois Supreme Court, upon which the events in A Raisin in the Sun was loosely based. When Lorraine was eight, her parents bought a house in a white neighborhood, where they were welcomed one night by a racist mob. Their experience of discrimination there led to a civil rights case. Hansberry's interest in Africa began at an early age. In an unfinished, partly autobiographical novel Hansberry wrote: "In her emotions she was sprung from the Southern Zulu and the Central Pygmy, the Eastern Watusi and the treacherous slave-trading Western Ashanti themselves. She was Kikuyu and Masai, ancient cousins of hers had made the exquisite forged sculpture at Benin, while surely even more ancient relatives sat upon the throne at Abu Simbel watching over the Nile..." Hansberry's parents sent her to public schools rather than private ones as a protest against the segregation laws. She studied art at the University of Wisconsin and in Mexico. In Wisconsin she joined the Young Progressives of America and later the Labor Youth League. After attending a school performance of a play by the Irish playwright Sean O'Casey, she decided to become a writer. In 1950 she dropped out of college and moved to New York. She took classes in writing at the New School for Social Research and worked as an associate editor of Paul Robeson's Freedom. During this period she met among others the famous writer Langston Hughes. When she was completing a seminar on African history under W.E.B. Du Bois (1868-1963), she wrote a research paper on 'The Belgian Congo: A Preliminary Report on Its Land, Its History and Its People.'

Government's Role in Tibet, Darfur, Burma?

READ/LISTEN TO MORE ON BLOGLIBERTY.COM "Reading about the recent protests and riots in Tibet, about the just days-old destruction in Burma, about the genocide in Darfur, about the mass killing in central Africa, and about other catastrophes and turmoils around the world, one may begin to ask the question, 'What should we do about it?' "The need to 'make a difference' is a good one, almost always motivated by a sincere desire to better the lives of others. The question, however, is what government's role should be. Take Tibet, for example. What should the federal government's role be in that country? As much as I'd like to see the Marines go in there and kick some Red backside, I surprise even myself--a devoted Free Tibet activist--when I say, 'Almost none, politically speaking.'" Tulipas / Tulips

Tulipa commonly called Tulip is a genus of about 100 species of bulbous flowering plants in the family Liliaceae. The native range of the species includes southern Europe, north Africa, and Asia from Anatolia and Iran in the east to northeast of China. Pioneers of Integration

In the fall of 1957, President Dwight Eisenhower ordered federal troops to intervene in the racially charged desegregation of Little Rock's Central High School. As images of the nine African-American students walking through an angry mob inundated the nation's evening news shows and newspapers, a similar, yet starkly different set of events was happening atop College Hill in Clarksville. Five Arkansas students enrolled at Ozarks, becoming her first African-American students, and becoming five of the first African-Americans to enroll at a predominately white university in Arkansas. During Alumni Weekend 2008, two of these pioneers of integration returned to campus to participate in the Alumni Lecture Series. Dr. Dodson was one of the five African-American students who enrolled at Ozarks in 1957, while Mr. Benson, who enrolled 1963, was one of the first African-American students to play collegiate sports in Arkansas. Kristina Mariswamy, KUOZ Channel 6 reporter, prepared this feature story, going behind the scenes of Dr. Dodson's and Mr. Benson's return to Ozarks.

Flamenco Vs Aguila Pescadora Africana
