New Flights and Increased Air Service to Jamaica

One thing Jamaica has always had going for it is accessibility, and some new flights are making it even easier to get to the birthplace of reggae and Usain Bolt, island officials say.

JetBlue, AirTran and US Airways are among the airlines offering new service to Jamaica. Last month, JetBlue began flying from New York to Kingston; the airline also added service to Montego Bay  in May and plans to expand MoBay service to Boston and Orlando, as well.

US Airways will debut nonstop service between Phoenix and Montego Bay in December, and AirTran will start flying to Montego Bay from Atlanta, Baltimore and Orlando in February.

About St John, U.S. Virgin Islands

Of all the islands, St John is probably the most unspoiled, thanks to the contribution of one of the world's best known philanthropists, Laurence Rockefeller. Had it not been for Rockefeller's gift of money and his desire to preserve beautiful St John, the landscape would probably look more commercial, much like the other Virgin Islands. "SXM Bucks" and Deep Discounts in St. Maarten (about.com)

What's New at Tobago's Coco Reef Resort and Spa

For the past four days, we'd been experiencing Trinidad's Carnival, a pulsating heartbeat of humanity that winds through the streets of Port of Spain. We'd chipped, we'd shuffled, we had lost ourselves in the pounding rhythm of the Caribbean's largest annual celebration that for many serves as an annual rebirth. (CaribbeanMag.com)

Cheap Gifts: Caribbean Hot Sauces

Matt Gross, the Frugal Traveler blogger at our sister publication The New York Times, recently spent two weeks cruising the Caribbean and collecting cheap souvenirs -- namely, hot pepper sources from the islands he visited.

Finder's Keepers: Souvenirs on the Road - Frugal Traveler Blog - NYTimes.com

"The eastern Caribbean islands, with their bounty of searingly spicy Scotch bonnet peppers, make an amazing variety of sauces, from the minimalist, dry-heat recipes of Trinidad to the vinegar- and mustard-tinged flavors of the Windward Islands," wrote Gross. "As far as I'm concerned, the hotter the better, but I also sought true flavor, not just heat."

Gregg pointed out that hot sauce is both authentic and cheap -- none cost more than $3.75. My personal favorite for cheap (actually, free) souvenirs is collecting coasters from local bars when I travel, but hot sauces have the added benefit of making nice gifts, especially around the holidays:
