Ofori Amponsah Shakes Liberia

His gigs also earned him another breathtaking credential as one of the most thrilling artistes in the sub-region when he doled out gripping performances to thousands of fans in that country which is still trying to piece itself together after the turbulence of war.
The crowd that met him at the airport was overwhelming as though they had been told to come and welcome the president of Ghana.

Ever since the death of the celebrated entertainer, radio DJ and a CEO, Muftawa Abubakar Dabre, many schools of thought have come out to associate his death to several meaning and interpretations.
Whiles stories about how he died and names making rounds as to who killed him, the eminent story is told of a death threat he received from a guy who claimed Mufty was following his lady. Several attempts by the said guy to ward Mufty off his lady yielded no fruits so he decided to consult a native doctor who took away Mufty’s soul.

“I think Mufty’s soul would be crying by now if he stands afar and watch what is going on. My brother died a natural death and the public should take it as such. From the family’s side we know he died a natural death and this must be understood by all. Mufty lived an exemplary life and this should not be part of his reward” D’ Flex said in a said tone.

He is currently working on a new music video for Ofori Amponsah’s new album. The video was shot in some ‘wild’ locations in Ghana and would be ready soon. Did you hear 2 Face was in town? Then I guess u might be right because he was here to work with Phamous People.
Video director, beat maker, writer and rapper himself also says Phamous People have transformed. Their videos are now shot in 16mm which makes pictures very sharp and of the best quality. Now a video cost not less than $6000.

Ghana Music Awards: The Great - And Not So Great - Moments
There was a great lift for traditional Ghanaian music at the highlight of the Golden Jubilee Ghana Music Awards last Saturday, with the unexpected win of King Ayisoba's "I want to see you my father eee" of the Most Popular Song of the Year.
Performed to the backing of a single string instrument, the kologo, the song defies the modern trend towards hi-tech and computer generated sounds, to produce a track which was simple in its construction but hugely catching in its result - its resonance on the lips of Ghanaians in the past year almost as widespread as the current "there is no change in value, the value is the same" jingle about the new Ghana Cedi!
I bet Terry Bonchaka"s soul will gladden wherever he is, as the artist he discovered out of a watchman some years back is finally acknowledged nationally and is moving on to international heights.
King Ayisoba beat other music heavyweights such as Ofori Amponsah, Obrafour, Samini, Praye, Wutah, Lord Kenya and Kwaku Gyasi to the coveted award. He also won Discovery of the Year and as predicted, Traditional Song of the Year.

Batman Samini Is King Of Reggae Music In Ghana
Ghana’s most famous hip life artiste, Emmanuel Samini (Batman) was astonished when his name was mentioned as the best Reggae Artiste of the year at the Golden Jubilee Ghana Music Awards Festival held at the La Palm Royal Beach hotel last Thursday in Accra.
His song, Odo which won him the award was declared the best Reggae song among Reggae artistes such as Rocky Dawuni in Fadaland, Akesefuor in African Girl, Dixon in No Vacancy, and Ebo ‘o in Once Twice respectively.
Batman Samini could not control his feelings. To him, winning the award was not his, but the will of God.
The Best Music Producer of the year went to Ofori Amponsah, who was not present and the award was received on his behalf.

I Want To See You My Father Tops All
Each year the award for the Most Popular Song of the Year is positioned as the highest of the dozens that make-up the highly ranked music awards festival in West Africa – The Ghana Music Awards Festival.
And this year, it appeared that as much as it should have been clear that King Ayisoba’s "I want to see you my father" was by far the most popular song in 2006 to date, it was simply amazing that most Ghanaians had their eyes hooked-on to Ofori Amponsah and Kwaku Gyasi. Why? The reason being that, had either of them emerged the winner of this category of the awards, each would have made one history or the other.
As predicted by The Spectator of Saturday, May 5 issue, Kwaku Gyasi won the gospel album of the year.
But the fact will still remain that the Ghana Music Awards Festival rewards none other but the very deserving music artistes of the event calendar. That was why when King Ayisoba’s "I want to see you my father" was declared the most popular song of the year, the pronouncement attracted ear-deafening cheers and approval from the audience amidst loud applauds that just wouldn’t stop.

Ayisoba's GMA Surprise
Jay-Z and Beyonce would probably have gone unnoticed had they appeared in a parachute. It was all about our very own stars. Samini, King Ayisoba, Amandzeba, Lord Kenya, Kwaku Gyasi, KOD, Bola Ray etc.
You had almost every person in the uppity and not-so-uppity class present making it very easy to get caught up with stars and friends of stars wanting to make a fashion statement.
Live on the ‘Red Carpet’ were Chris and Pamela welcoming in the stars of the night. Praye’s explosive performance started the night on a good note. Then, quickly, the awards rolled in. Luckily, there were no unnecessary speeches from the recipients of the awards. It was the usual thanks to God Almighty, family and production team.
The big winners on the night were Kwaku Gyasi, Ofori Amponsah, Obrafuor and (surprise!) King Ayisoba. Ofori Amponsah took home all the three highlife awards as well as Album of the Year. Hiplife song of the year presented by Bola Ray and Hamamat (Miss Malaika 2006) went to Obrafuor for ‘Heavy’. The ‘Executioner’ dedicated his first award of the night to his “14-week-old baby.” He also won ‘Best Collabo’ of the year with Kofi B as well as Hiplife Artiste of the Year.

Obrafuor Bears Fruits Of Success
Heavy has become Obrafuor’s biggest release after his first album, pae mu ka. His success at the recent Ghana Music Awards lends credence to the assertion that the rap sofour’s strongest comeback came with the release of the heavy album.
His collabo with the sweet-singing Kofi B secured him the best collaboration of the year award in spite of strong competition from nominees like Ofori Amponsah and the Camp with Emmanuella, Ewurasi and OD4’s gye gye meso, and the nyame dome song by Isaac of TV3 Mentor fame and Ampong.
This contrasts sharply with his previous album, asem sebe which was anything but successful. He infact didn’t make much after selling the rights out for 220 million cedis. The heavy album has definitely established Obrafuor’s resilience and uniqueness as a Hiplife artist. Heavy also conquered the rest in the Hiplife song of the year category.
Obrafuor was on stage in style to pick his award up and was supported ‘heavily’ by his dancers and Kofi B.

Aftermath Of The Ghana Music Awards 2007
Over the years there have been dust in the air after every Ghana Music Awards event and this year’s event is no exception.
Some questions have been raised by a section of the general public and critics concerning the categories which many believe were ill-structured and unfair to some artists.
Organization of the awards was well taken care of by Charter House, though the stage setting was not the best. The curtain raiser for the event was a performance by ace musician cum producer Obrafuor who charged the atmosphere and by his show suggested to the audience to expect nothing but the best.
The excitement was climaxed when names of artistes were called for awards within their respective categories. Ofori Amponsah swept the board again by picking four enviable awards in various categories including the Album of the Year and Highlife song of the Year.

Ofori Amponsah Sinks On Stage
Ofori Amponsah may be ahead of the pack when it comes to recording good music, but he certainly has a lot of brush up to do on presenting his music on stage.
His performance on stage during the Ghana Music Awards Festival last weekend proved that he’s not much cop as a performer. It made interesting contrast when the Nigerian musician, D’Banj, performed after Ofori Amponsah (Mr. All For Real).
That Mr. All For real has recorded some first-rate albums in Ghana can’t be disputed. His Emmanuella album won him album of the year. The audience reaction to his lacklustre performance should have prompted him to change the style on stage.
It got worse when the MC, Kwame Sefa Kayi climbed stage to discontinue the act in a ‘nice way’. Ofori stopped in the middle of a line as a result.

King Ayisoba Nets Most Popular Song Of The Year Award
King Ayisoba was crowned the king in this year’s Ghana Music Awards Festival held at the national theatre as part of Ghana’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
He came up tops in the coveted most popular song of the year category. King Ayisoba slugged it out with the likes of Ofori amponsah, Obrafuor, samini, Praye, wutah, Lord Kenya and Kweku Gyesi.
The kologo instrumentalist stepped up on stage in his usual African costume along with his entourage of dreadlocks-flashing dancers.
He didn’t forget to remind us of Terry Bonchaka’s poulele as he approached his award. Standing before a microphone rose high above him, he thanked all the radio DJs for their props and Ghanaians for their support. His indefatigable producer, Panji Anoff was present to boost the morale.

Obrafour Will Definitely Take Home The ‘Most Popular Song Of The Year’ Award
2005 saw the reputable record label by name Soul Records grabbing the ‘Record label of the Year’ award with his artiste Obour holding on tight to the ‘Most Popular Song of the Year’ award.
In 2006, things went hand in hand again when Big Ben Music Production together with his top artiste Ofori Amponsah swept the ‘Record label of the Year’ award and ‘Most Popular Song of the Year’ award respectively.
This year, the Industry Awards Night, which came off yesterday at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel saw Big Ben Music Production who has Obrafour in his camp this year again winning the ‘Record label of the Year’ award.

Can Mr. All-4-Real Pass The Test?
If there is one artiste who is most qualified to break the perceived Ghana Music Award’s jinx that has so far prevented any musician from winning the topmost award twice, that artiste is Ofori Amponsah.
Unlike his predecessors - Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Lord Kenya, Kontihene, VIP and Obuor - Ofori Amponsah’s song Emmanuella, coming so closely on the heels of Otoolege which won him the top award last year, the man appears miles ahead of his fellow nominees for the Most Popular Song award.
Curiously, none of the artistes who has ever made it to the top on the GMA awards list has ever repeated the feat. Not only do they not win the award again but indeed it has been observed that the winners’ careers take a dip soon after the award.
All that might change this weekend when Ofori Amponsah walks onto the podium to receive the Most Popular Song award for Emmanuella.

Who Wins Special, Public Awards?
Next weekend, Ghanaians will select and reward the best singers in the country presently and the big question is who wins the top prize?
Will it be Lord Kenya, who is considered as the most electrifying stage performer, hot gospelsinger, Kwaku Gyasi, top lyricist, Obrafour, or smooth singer Ofori Amponsah?
Or will it be solid newcomer, King Ayisoba, “raga don dada”, (Batman) Samini, show masters Praye or the sensational duo, Wutah.
Before that question is answered on Saturday, May 5, the plush La Palm Royal Hotel will come alive on Thursday, May 3, with rhythmic African sounds, tasty food and “serious” partying when organizers of the Ghana Music Awards, Charterhouse, presents industry awards to deserving nominees of this year’s awards.
