Biography of Etran Finatawa

Etran Finatawa is a Niger based band, formed in 2004. It was formed as part of the Festival au Désert near Timbuktu. The music of Etran Finatawa blends North African Woodabe and Tuareg styles with modern music, such as electric guitars. They have extensively toured the world, including Europe and the United States, since 2005. In 2007, their debut album Introducing Etran Finatawa was nominated for a BBC Radio Award for World Music. Their album Desert Crossroads, was released in 2007 and their next album Tarkat Tajje is expected in 2010. The name of the band means "the stars of tradition".
