Americanah

Americanah, published in 2013, is the fourth novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The work follows Ifemelu, a young Nigerian who goes to the United States to study. The novel traces her journey between two continents, addressing themes of racial identity, belonging, and racism in the United States.

Ifemelu creates a blog on race in America that earns her considerable popularity. Returning to Nigeria after fourteen years in the United States, she must navigate a new reversed exile. Through her sharp and humorous perspective, Adichie offers a virulent critique of American identity politics while questioning notions of African identity and national belonging.

The novel received the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2013 and was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award.
