The Termite Mounds of the Savanna
Two years after the military coup, an apparent calm reigns in the African state of Kangan. Disappointed by not having won the popular votes that would have made him a life president, “His Excellency” suspects his closest friends of disloyalty. The future of the men who brought the dictator to power suddenly becomes more uncertain. The days of Chris Oriko, High Commissioner for Information and the dictator’s former schoolmate, are numbered. Ikem Osodi, poet and editor-in-chief of “The Voice of the Nation,” the official press organ, tries in his part to still steer his childhood friend. But a demonstration organized following a great drought is crushed in a bloodbath. Alongside Beatrice Okoh, Chris and Ikem become the protagonists of a drama worthy of the troubled history of this country.
