A Cidade e a Infância

A Cidade e a Infância is a collection of short stories (mainly for children) published in 1960 by José Luandino Vieira, before his most famous work Luuanda. Gathering texts often written in Luanda during the 1950s, it predates his prison writings and still bears a more “Portuguese” language. Some historians estimate the composition around 1957. It is the author’s very first published book, in the Ultramarino collection edited by Casa dos Estudantes do Império in Lisbon. The collection already sketches the central motif that will traverse his entire work: the city of Luanda and its popular neighborhoods.
