Vidas novas
Vidas novas is a collection of short stories written by José Luandino Vieira in the early 1960s and published in Portuguese. This collection from the first phase, marked by more sociological concerns and a language still close to standard Portuguese, extends the themes of Luuanda and A vida verdadeira de Domingos Xavier. Vieira describes the lives of inhabitants of the musseques (peripheral neighborhoods) of Luanda and the birth of an Angolan identity in the face of the colonizer.
