Terre ceinte

First novel by Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, Terre ceinte tells the story of the installation of an Islamist militia in a fictional city in the Sahel, “Kahraba”: daily life shifts under the law of new masters, between resignation, resistance and compromise. The novel receives in 2015 the Ahmadou-Kourouma Prize, the grand prix du roman métis and the prix du roman métis des lycéens, then a writing grant from Villa Kujoya. Translated into English under the title Brotherhood by Europa Editions (2021), it revealed a major voice of contemporary African literature.
