Sankofa: the adopted daughter of death
As a child, Fatima received a visit from Death and lost everything: her village, her family, even her name, which became Sankofa—and the treasure of her mother disappeared with it, a box containing a magic seed. An initiatory tale about the name we bear, memory, and what we come to reclaim (“sankofa” means in Twi “to go back and retrieve what was forgotten”). From her award-winning new work, published in French by L’École des loisirs.
