Description
Major political essay by Aimé Césaire, originally published in 1950 by éditions Réclame in Paris. The text denounces with vigorous precision the effects of colonialism on colonized peoples and on European consciousness itself. Césaire develops there a lucid analysis of the colonial system, from its structural violence to the humanist illusions that mask it. The work is considered one of the founding texts of postcolonial thought and continues to be studied universally.
