Description
Poetic collection by Aimé Césaire published in 1960 by Seuil in Paris. Ferrements represents a culmination in Césaire’s poetry: the poet develops a style that is denser, more fragmented, and darker than in previous collections. The title evokes both the shackles of colonialism and their raw, resistant, and durable metal. The poems in this collection blend an apocalyptic vision of the colonial world with a personal quest for regeneration. It is an important milestone between Corps Perdu and later texts such as Cadastre.
