Description
Novel by Patrick Chamoiseau published in 1997. The work follows the story of an old man-slave who survives in a rapidly changing world. The “molosse” of the title refers to the guard dog that embodies colonial violence and its legacy. Chamoiseau explores the devastating effects of slavery on memory and language, through a narrative blending magical realism and Creole-inflected language. The book is a tribute to former slaves who survived total uprooting and, despite everything, transmitted a form of dignity.
