Dub (Jamaica)

Dub is a Jamaican musical style born in the 1970s, derived from reggae and dancehall. It is instrumental music based on remixing and rearranging existing reggae tracks: vocals are removed, bass and drums are boosted, and the producer adds effects (reverb, delay). It is a precursor to modern electronic music.

The pioneers are King Tubby, Santa Barbara and Admiral Tibet. Dub has influenced house, drum and bass and electro. In Africa, the influence of dub can be found in African reggae and the electronic scenes of Lagos and Nairobi.
