Guajira (Cuba)
The guajira is a Cuban musical style born in the countryside of the island, characterized by simple guitar and tres chords and romantic melodies. Emerging from the Cuban rural milieu, the style tells of love and nature in a poetic way.
The pioneering figures include Sindo Garay and son cubain groups. The guajira has influenced salsa and bolero. In Africa, the influences of the guajira are found in certain forms of Congolese soukous.
