Akissi

Written by Marguerite Abouet and illustrated by Mathieu Sapin (with coloring by Clémence Sapin), Akissi is a children’s comic series that recounts the adventures of Akissi, an 8-year-old spirited and imaginative girl living in the popular Yopougon neighborhood of Abidjan.

Originally published in the magazine Astrapi since 2009, the series is compiled into albums by Gallimard Jeunesse. Each volume addresses everyday African themes with humor and tenderness: family life, school, games, cooking, celebrations… Akissi embodies the dynamism and zest of urban African childhood.

The series has enjoyed great success with Francophone young audiences and is translated into several languages. A spin-off Akissi de Paris has also been released.
