Mũrogi wa Kagogo (Wizard of the Crow, 2006) is Ngũgĩ’s first novel in twenty years, written in Gikuyu and then translated into English by the author. This satirical epic is set in the fictional Republic of Aburiria, ruled by a tyrant known as the Sovereign. The Crow Magician, a messianic figure, draws in the oppressed and threatens the power.
