Biography
Luc Léandry: the voice of Guadeloupean zouk
On the docks of Pointe-à-Pitre, where the wind loads Creole songs with salt and sweat, Luc Léandry grew up cradled by the rhythms that make the neighborhoods vibrate — a Caribbean music that marked him from childhood. Decades later, this pianist, bassist, songwriter and arranger will remain one of the tutelary figures of Guadeloupean zouk, between stage and production booth.

From the island to the Parisian studio
Luc Léandry began his career in 1987 with Fanm bô kannal, signed to Disques Debs, while the zouk — a synthetic music born in Guadeloupe and Martinique at the end of the 1980s — experienced a planetary explosion. Quickly, he established himself as one of the pillars of Debs Music productions, rubbing shoulders with Francky Vincent, Éric Brouta, Jacob Desvarieux or Georges Décimus. A versatile pianist and bassist, he multiplied recording sessions on the island as well as in Paris, weaving a network of artists and musicians that fed his creative appetite.
Established in the capital, he founded his own record label, Likid Production, and invested in a studio — a rare independence that allowed him to produce as many of his own albums as those of dozens of Antillean artists.
A zouk between tradition and modernity
His discography, dense and regular, shows an artist who measures every new release with precision: Alerte n°2 (1988), Punch Créole (1989), Super (1990), I salé I sikré (1993), Machine-la (1995), Jump up (1996). His hit “Dans tes yeux” (1994), crowned with the Maracas d’Or, established itself as a pivotal moment, broadcast by radio stations and scanned on the dance floors of the zouk circuit.
The collaboration with Manu Dibango on “Bondié Bon” (album Peace & Love, 2000) marked a turning point, opening the zouk towards unexpected musical bridges. In 2011 and then 2012, his invitation to the Zénith in Paris for the concerts celebrating the 20th anniversary of Grand Méchant Zouk confirmed his place as guest of honor. After 2017 and Ici c’est le Zouk (Volcano), Luc Léandry continued to publish singles and tour, from the Antilles to Europe and Africa.

Legacy and influence
Luc Léandry remains a craftsman of Guadeloupean zouk — a musician in the shadows as much as a face on stage, a songwriter who shaped a sound, produced a host of artists and traveled the world in concert. His massive discographic output and his Likid Production label have formed several generations of Caribbean musicians. Today, his work continues to circulate via legal downloads and his albums follow one after another: the trace of an artist who chose to persevere rather than withdraw.
