Ska (Jamaica)

The ska is a Jamaican musical style born in the 1960s, precursor to rocksteady and reggae. Played with powerful brass, a pronounced bass, and a fast tempo, ska is an energetic dance music stemming from Jamaican sound-system scenes.

The pioneers of ska include the Skatalites, Prince Buster and artists like Toots and the Maytals. Ska influenced British pop music (2 Tone) and the entire Caribbean music scene.

In Africa, ska influenced afrobeats and West African music scenes.
