Tsapiky (Madagascar)
The tsapiky is the popular musical style of Madagascar, born in Toliara (South-West) in the 1970s-80s. It is a very rhythmic dance music played on electric guitar and percussion. Tsapiky is the dominant genre of modern Malagasy music.
The iconic figures include Jaojoby (the “king of tsapiky”), Mavety, and the numerous artists on the tsapiky scene who animate Madagascar and the Malagasy diaspora.
