Wassoulou (Guinea/Mali)
Wassoulou is a musical style from the region of the same name (Guinea and Mali), in southwest Africa. It is music played with traditional instruments (korra, ngoma, djembé) and accompanied by griot songs.
Emblematic figures include Oumou Sangaré (the “siren of wassoulou”), who internationalized the style, and the griots of the region.
