Guaracha (Cuba)
The guaracha is a satirical and danceable Cuban musical style, born in Havana in the 19th century. Initially a satirical theatrical form with humorous lyrics, it evolved into a fast-paced musical style characterized by powerful brass instruments, an infectious tempo, and a syncopated rhythm.
The great guaracha orchestras include Los Cinco Decaberos and the Fania formations. The style influenced Caribbean salsa and Latino-Caribbean dances.
