Blues (African blues)

The blues is an Afro-American musical style born in the South of the United States at the end of the 19th century. Although fundamentally Afro-American, the blues has had a profound influence on African music, notably via imported records and musicians who adapted it in the African context.

The influence of blues is found in afrobeat music (Fela Kuti was inspired by the blues), Congolese soukous and afropop. African artists like Manu Dibango (Cameroon) and highlife groups integrate blues elements into their compositions.
