Sega (Maurice)
The sega is a musical style and dance originating from the island of Mauritius (Indian Ocean), of African origin (Malagasy, Mozambican and Zimbabwean slaves). It is a dance music played on the ravanne (goat-skin drum) and ravatts (cagotes), with songs in Mauritian Creole.
The emblematic figures include Ti Frèr, La Souris DOR and the numerous sega groups that animate the Mauritian music scene.
The sega is similar to maloya from Réunion and to soukous from the Antilles.
