Cadence rampa (Cadence)
Cadence rampa is a musical style and dance originating from Guadeloupe and the French Antilles, born in the 1950s-60s. The term comes from the syncoped rhythmic structure that “ramped” along the time. The cadence is characterized by brass instruments, percussion and a choir.
The orchestra Grambo and later Frères Papaille are the emblematic figures of the style. Cadence rampa has strongly influenced Antillean zouk and Francophone Caribbean music.
