Afro-funk
Afro-funk is a musical style resulting from the blending of funk American music from the 1960s-70s and traditional African rhythms. The term refers to both productions by Afro-American musicians from the southern United States (James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic) who drew inspiration from African rhythms, and contemporary creations by African musicians that incorporate funk elements into their compositions.
Modern afro-funk encompasses productions from groups like Manu Chao (African-funk influences), Nigerian artists of afrobeat, and scenes such as the South African gqom which draws inspiration from funk rhythm and bass.
