Style musical cubain dansant des années 1940-50

Mambo (Cuba)

The mambo is a Cuban musical style born in the 1940s, developed from the danzón and Afro-Cuban music. It is a very rhythmic dance music, characterized by powerful brass instruments, a driving tempo and an explosive rhythm section.

The king of mambo is Dámaso Pérez Prado who popularized the style in the 1950s and around the world. Arsenio Rodríguez is the inventor of mambo (as a rhythmic structure in sound) and Nelson Pinedo is another pioneer. Mambo was popularized by orchestras from Havana and New York, with stars like Celia Cruz.

Mambo directly influenced the salsa, cha-cha-chá and modern Latin American music.
