Adjiri Odametey (musician from west africa)

Adjiri Odametey is a musician from Ghana who plays atmospherically compact and compositionally sophisticated world music. The music is captivates through the natural ability of Adjiri Odametey to combine the stylistic impulses of West Africa in his compositions. He transforms his traditional roots into an individual sound environment with virtuosity.

Adjiri Odametey plays with virtuosity on modern as well as traditional instruments: including the balaphone, Mbira and Kalima, Cora, the guitar, and drums. The CD "Mala" is Adjiris Odametey´s debut album: The music is occasionally lyrical an occasionally melodic, but always conveys the joy of playing with rhythm. The music weaves a tapestry of stylistic impression of West Africa.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung (Munich, Germany) write: " ... his warm, earthy voice, absent of any vocal cavorting, leaves behind a deep impression. His songs are simple in the big picture but complex in detail, poetical, melodic and never blurred. (...) The wonderfully arranged and performed songs are catchy."

Adjiri Odametey´s artistic roots are grounded in the traditions of his home country, Ghana. He collected international performing experiences in ensembles like the Pan African Orchestra and the Ghana dance ballet. He has toured in Asia and South America. In Ghana he performed on the stage together with famous artists like Miriam Makeba, Lucky Dube or Osibisa.
