Kizomba
Kizomba is a musical style and dance from Angola, born in the 1980s. Derived from semba (traditional Angolan music) and influenced by Antillean zouk, kizomba is characterized by a slow and sensual rhythm, very close partner dances (“connection dance”), and polished musical production. The name means " connection" in umbundu.
Kizomba is today danced and listened to worldwide, with major international scenes in Europe (Portugal, France, Germany) and in Brazil. It gave birth to sub-genres such as kizomba tuku (faster, influenced by semba) and tarraxa (ultra-slow, danced very close).
Notable artists include Anos Deh, C4 Pedro (who blends kizomba and afrobeats), Neyma, Sticky Ft. Mayra Verdhugo (Portugal), and Jean Paulo.
