Dominica Diaspora Patriots stage anti-corruption rally outside the UN Headquarters in Manhattan

Dominican diaspora patriots are out in force this morning outside of the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan, as they protest the corrupt practices of Roosevelt Skerrit led, Dominica Labour Party. Their objective they say is "to show solidarity with the people of Dominica" and to "bring awareness" of what has been taking place in Dominica lately, especially protest action and the response of the police in the community of Salisbury.

She will go to Nepal, learn to speak the language, and study at the Trubhuvan University to further her knowledge in the field she's already studied in the biology undergraduate program at Lemoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. She was one of 171 chosen from 750 applicants. “The main reason for doing this is that I didn't get to study abroad during my undergraduate years, and wanted to continue in science,” she explained.

Regional court adjourns alleged satanic ritual trial

ROSEAU, Dominica The hearing of a convicted murderer Sherman Webb, a Dominican who was found guilty in 2012 and sentenced to life in prison, has been adjourned until November. He was found guilty of the murder of University of the West Indies student, Corey Poleon of St Lucy, Barbados in 2012 and sentenced to life in prison by Justice Bernie Stephenson.

The minister says the broadband drive is being undertaken to ensure that reliable telephone access is available throughout the islands, noting that patchy broadband access is an ongoing concern to the administration.

DANCEHALL artiste Alkaline has been given the thumbs up to perform in Dominica from the most unlikely quarters: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. According to Dominica News Online, on Monday Skerrit said that unless there is a security risk, Alkaline cannot be prevented from performing in that Caricom state.

Dear Sir: At his lecture at SGU on March 13, speaking on the topic: "The Grenada Revolution, Foreign Policy and Development of Small Island States in the Present International Environment", prime minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerritt said that the most important lesson for the contemporary leaders of the region "is the imperative and the special responsibility to speak out clearly and loudly against any infringement of the fundamental freedoms that our fore-parents so desperately fought for". Here I am left wondering what are the "freedoms" he refers to.

Commentary: Intellectual discussion about the Grenada revolution is a waste of time

By Hudson George It is impossible for the younger generation of Grenadians to know the true story about the Grenada revolution because the same group of people who took full control of the revolution after March 13, 1979, until its demise on October 19, 1983, are the ones today holding intellectual discussions about the events of that political period. Therefore, it obvious that they will never, ever accept their mistakes and admit that they were the ones who are responsible for the tragedy.

New information channel promises timely updates to Dominicans on CSME developments

ROSEAU, Dominica -- The ministry of trade, energy and employment in Dominica has launched the CSME Report Card, a bi-annually hosted press conference that will serve as a direct reporting mechanism from CARICOM Single Market and Economy touch-point agencies to Dominicans, in partnership with local media. Coordinated by the CARICOM/CSME desk within the ministry of trade, the CSME Report Card launch was an opening highlight of the media CSME training workshop, hosted on February 25. Approximately 13 journalists and media managers were on hand to receive the first CSME implementation report for 2015 by Felix Gregoire, ambassador to the Caribbean Community .

Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll will host a raising of the Dominican Flag to honor Dominican Independence Day at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27 on the steps to City Hall, 93 Washington St. About 16 percent of Salem's population identifies as being Latino and the majority of them are from the Dominican Republic. WEST NEW YORK -- West New York will celebrate Dominican Independence Day with a flag raising on Friday, Feb. 27, at 5:30 p.m. According to a release issued by Mayor Felix Roque, the history will be commemorated with the raising of the Dominican flag outside town hall, followed by a ceremony in the court chambers. Segura will be named "Dominican of the Year" and Guzman will be named "Community Leader of the Year," the release stated.

Sealord trawler renamed, reflagged

Dominican opposition leader condemns exclusion of parliamentary questions

ROSEAU, Dominica -- Dominica's opposition leader Lennox Linton has condemned the exclusion of the opposition's questions from the order paper for the first sitting of Parliament after the last general elections and intends to move a motion for the amendment of the order paper to include questions and motions already submitted by the opposition. Linton said this decision, communicated to the opposition via a letter from the clerk of the House of Assembly, clearly violates the legitimate right of opposition members to ask questions pertinent to the business of the people they were elected to represent.

LIAT to cut 180 jobs

One hundred and eighty employees will be sent home this year from regional airline LIAT.
