Straight to the Top of the Charts: Bass at Last Makes its Wilmington Debut

While the postings there are often snarky, with musical tastes heatedly debated and talent evaluated sight unseen, this one has an alluring sense of humor. Well, I’ve finally done it. I bought a bass guitar and an amp yesterday, so now I’m a bass player. I haven’t figured out why it has 4 strings, when you can only strum one at a time. Speaking of time, can anybody tell me what drummers mean when they talk about ti

Tips To Choose The Right African Jewelry

To chart the history of African jewelry you have to go back to Namibia 27,000 years ago. In the cave paintings of Namibia you can see the awakening of the artistic man. It took quite a few years from then to about 15,000 years ago when an oval pendant in bone, a piece of antique jewelry , in Tunisia, indicated what was probably the birth of African jewelry . The earliest materials used in African jewelry making were bones mainly of birds, nuts and seeds. It’s because of the very

Sailors with a Sweet Tooth

Of all the world’s mammals, there is one that lays claim to a jaw full of the world’s largest teeth. That distinction goes to one of our seafaring mammalian brothers, the sperm whale. Surprisingly, the sperm whale’s upper jaw is toothless, but the bottom makes up for it containing roughly 60 seven pound teeth. In the mid-1800s, through a combination of seemingly unlimited forests with which to gather wood for ships,  untapped whale populations, and a long history of seafaring, the American Eas
