Roof

The roof of a native hut. I found it strangely appealing.

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

One of the stray dogs that followed us on our backpacking trip to Dittilou. There is blood on his leg from his battles 'defending' us from baboons. Thanks to him I never got a good photo of a baboon.

Lac Assal - Djibouti

Lac Assal is a salted lake 153 meters under the sea in Djiboti. Camels caravans still come there to take salt and carry in in the most remoted areas of Ethiopia, in a 10 days trip. Nowadays, americans have started to dig the salt.

Camel or Two

As we hiked our way down the gorge we came across some of the local wildlife: camels. Though, all camels are domestic, they are left to roam the mountains by themselves....which causes immense problems when the owners decide they need the camel to go in to town.

Backpacking Djibouti

Looking into the gorge towards the Gulf of Tadjoura. My two friends contemplate the steep trail ahead. It was far cooler here in the mountains than down in the city. Thankfully. Otherwise I would have never made it.

Skulls

Nothing is cooler than animal sculls dipped in Lac Assal for six months to a year, covered in a residue of salt. I can't stop imagining using these as salt licks for deer or horses. How twisted is that?
