Freedom Died. Early Spring 2008

Freedom died. This photo was taken in Swaziland a few years ago.
Like so many children in Africa, Freedom died of AIDS (well pneumonia, due to AIDS).

AIDS does not only ravage Africa, but many other places. In the United States, it is tearing apart the Black community which has now become the #1 killer among African American males, and I would know this since I live in a dominantly Black community where the young Black women and I discuss this quite often.

While every place has its good and its bad, and I do not wish to put all people into one basket so to speak, the truth must be spoken.

Do you know how many children would not be orphans and how many children in this world (like Freedom) would not be killed by AIDS if rape and stupidity did not exist?

So many men, of all colours/races/ethnicities but especially in Africa, are not using condoms even when they KNOW they have HIV or that the risk is extremely high. I have Black African friends who have tried to educate men (mostly rural men) on the use of condoms, and still they cannot get through to them. So, if a Black African male cannot get through to another Black African, what chance does a foreigner or a white man or Asian man have?
In the U.S. they know condoms save lives but they don't use them. Why? Pure stupidity. There is no other reason than that. You don't need a high school education to know how condoms save lives.

There is a myth in Africa that raping a child will cure you of AIDS. I wonder how many un-educated people actually believe this myth. Having worked with child rape victims myself, many (if not most) of them explained to me that their attacker told them "if you tell anyone I will kill you", therefore that means the rapist was well aware that what he was doing was wrong.

Should we be teaching children, especially in Africa but other continents too, self defense? I feel a program should be started where people who know martial arts go to teach at-risk children. It would be a fantastic programme!

So there you have it. The only AIDS victims are the ones who were raped (even a wife who can't refuse a husband unless she is beaten), the only AIDS victims are the children, the only AIDS victims are the ones who used a condom and still got HIV/AIDS.
