This hut is made by clay. The traditional boran hut is made by grass and here is also an open fire inside on the floor.

Boran women are masters of making houses of grass. The grass houses are beautiful but dangerous. Just a little spark from the fire on the floor and the whole hut will burn. Not all have the luck to escape the fire. A house made of clay is more safe, but who can make such a house when you don’t have enough water for drinking and cooking?

A low dry stone wall circle marks where the holy ground is and where the holy man lives. The holy places lay separated from the other huts. We are still waiting for the coffee ceremony to begin.

The girl has to walk some kilometers to bring her burden home. Many interesting animals are swimming in the water she is carrying on her back.

They take a rest before their long walk home.

Boran herdsmen are crossing the border to Ethiopia.
