Banjul Belly
Restaurant in Serrekunda.
The Gambia offers some of the best food anywhere in West Africa. The meals tend to be based around local dishes of meat, vegetables or fish and generally served with a sauce such as mafay or domodah – all on a bed of the local staple, rice.
The almost inevitable tummy upset is known locally as "Banjul Belly" and is of course included in The Gambia Experience...

Serrekunda
Serrekunda is The Gambia's largest town and is a higgledy piggledy maze of dusty streets and badly constructed compounds with tin roofs.
It wasn't always the case, 20 years ago Serrekunda was little more than a village. Since then it has grown beyond all recognition but with no logical plan for expansion has swallowed up a number of smaller villages on its borders.

Fruit Ladies
Fruit sellers (middle) try to get tourists` attention on Kotu beach (left) while a Tourist Police Officer (green shirt on right) makes sure they don`t get to close to them. Under the Gambian law it is now an offence to hassle tourists and it is punishable under the Tourism Offences Bill.
