Bananaquit

www.texastargetbirds.com

I don’t usually like taking photos of bird feeders but the mob of Bananaquits visiting the hummingbird feeders at the Asa Wright Nature Centre in Trinidad were just too much to resist. It was quite a spectacle to see them descend on the newly filled feeder and frenzy until the level was too low for them to reach the sugar water.

We will be doing this trip again in spring of 2019, if you think you might be interested more information is available here: www.texastargetbirds.com/group-photo-trips/2019-trinidad/

Street Scenes

I came upon this scene in Trinidad. People just hanging out, watching the world go by.

Turquoise Tanager

www.texastargetbirds.com

These Turquoise Tanagers were a nice treat during our visit to Trinidad last month. They always seemed to be in pairs or small groups moving through the forest feeding on berries.

White-lined Tanager

www.texastargetbirds.com

This is a male White-lined Tanager that we photographed during our visit to Trinidad last month. The white line doesn’t usually show up but this species has bright white feathers on the underside of its wing that give this bird its name.

Ochre-bellied Flycatcher

www.texastargetbirds.com

This Ochre-bellied Flycatcher liked to hang around in the Trema trees around the veranda at the Asa Wright Nature Center during our visit to Trinidad last month. It is a small bird but definitely was aggressive; chasing the honeycreepers and bananaquits all over the place.

Green-backed Trogon

www.texastargetbirds.com

This Green-backed Trogon was hanging around along the Discovery Trail at the Asa Wright Nature Centre in Trinidad during our trip last month. I had heard it calling as I was walking down the trail and kept trying to locate the bird but was really having a difficult time. After several minutes of searching I finally spotted it looking around in a surprisingly conspicuous perch.
