Rumba (Cuba)
La cuban rumba is a musical style and dance originating from Cuba in the 1840s-50s. Stemming from Afro-Cuban traditions (notably Yoruba), the Cuban rumba uses congas, claves, and polyrhythmic chants. It is the direct ancestor of son cubano and salsa.
The pioneering figures include traditional rumba groups from Havana. Cuban rumba influenced Congolese soukous (which takes its name from the Cuban rumba), and all Caribbean music.
